  6.  You can do it with polys by:
  7.  
  8.  Sketch out half a cross section, something like
  9.  
  10.  
  11.        .
  12.      .
  13.  ....

  15.  Make it a curve and freeze it to get more points.  Kill the poly, or
  16.  cut and paste all points.  Do a "points to polys".  Jitter to get some
  17.  randomness.  Lathe it with appropriate number of segments.  Jitter again
  18.  as necessary.

  20.  With a little work, this can look great, but the poly count can get out
  21.  of control quick.

  23.  In layout, adjust the particle/line size to get a good look.
